Pitch Deck Examples and Film Pitch Deck Template

A pitch deck is a short slide deck, usually about ten slides, that sells a film or series to producers, financiers and talent before they read the script. Below are three sample pitch decks written out slide by slide and a full example deck; the free template lets you fill in ten slides and save a PDF.

How long should a pitch deck be?

Short. The ten slides here are the usual core, and many decks stop there. Producers and financiers see a lot of decks, and the deck decides whether they read the script, so every slide has to earn its place. If a slide repeats something an earlier one said, cut it.

A series deck usually adds a slide on the season arc and future seasons. A feature deck for financiers may add a page on comparable films and audience. Start with these ten and add only what your reader needs.

What makes a pitch deck example work?

Specificity. Every one of the sample pitch decks below names a place, a person and a problem. The example deck below never says "a thrilling journey". It names the ship, the storm, the deadline and the twist. Every slide answers a question a producer has: what is it, who is it about, why would anyone watch it, and can this team make it.

Images matter more than words on the world and title slides. Use a few strong reference frames you have the right to use, or your own photography. Avoid a collage of famous film stills: it is common, and it makes your film look like someone else’s.

Do you need a pitch deck to sell a script?

Not always. Many writers get read from a logline and a query letter alone. A deck helps most when you are packaging a project yourself: attaching a director or actor, raising money, or applying to a lab. Make sure the script is ready first, because a good deck gets the script read and the script has to hold up.

    The Last Crossing2

    2. Logline

  3. Synopsis

Nell Varga works the night ferry because nobody else will hire her. Tonight a storm kills the engines halfway across, and a frightened girl slips Nell a note: help me. By the time Nell finds the cabin, the girl is gone and the passenger list says she never boarded. With the radio down and the captain convinced Nell is drinking again, she has to search a crippled ship, decide which of forty strangers she can trust, and keep herself sober long enough to be believed. At the midpoint she finds the girl, and learns the girl was never kidnapped: she is the witness someone on board was sent to silence.

Pitch deck examples, slide by slide

Three sample pitch decks for made up films in different genres, written out slide by slide: title, logline, world, characters, tone and comps, why now, team and the ask. The projects and people are invented; the comps are real films. Copy the shape, not the words.

Micro budget horror, slide by slide

Night Feed

Title
NIGHT FEED. A horror feature. Tagline: Something else is awake at 3am.
Logline
A father doing the 3am feeds alone notices his newborn’s eyes follow something across the empty nursery, every night, a little closer to the cot.
World
One terraced house over one winter. Practical light only: the baby monitor, a hallway lamp, a phone screen. The house gets darker as the nights go on.
Characters
Dan, a new father on leave, sure he can do this alone. Priya, his wife, back at work and sleeping through it. Mrs Hale, the neighbour who keeps asking about the noise.
Tone and comps
Slow, quiet and close. The Babadook meets Paranormal Activity: parenthood fear, told with a camera that never leaves the house.
Why now
Every new parent knows the fear of the night shift. The film turns that exhaustion into a question the audience takes home: what are they looking at?
Team
Writer and director with two festival shorts in the genre, and a producer who has delivered a single location feature.
The ask
Single location, four cast, an 18 day shoot. Seeking finance partners and a sales agent.

Indie romantic comedy, slide by slide

The Vineyard Accounts

Title
THE VINEYARD ACCOUNTS. A romantic comedy. Tagline: The numbers say no.
Logline
A city accountant sent to close a failing family vineyard falls for the stubborn winemaker trying to save it, one harvest before the bank calls in the loan.
World
A small valley vineyard through one harvest: dusty rows at dawn, a cellar full of debt, and a town that has known everyone’s business for three generations.
Characters
Nell, who has never failed an audit or taken a holiday. Rafa, who has never read a contract or left the valley. His grandmother Ines, who keeps the real books.
Tone and comps
Warm, quick and grown up. Sideways meets The Proposal: wine country, work and two people who are both right about the numbers.
Why now
Small family businesses are closing everywhere. This is a romance about whether you save what you love or walk away from it.
Team
Writer with a produced short in the genre, attached director with a festival comedy, and a producer based in wine country.
The ask
Seeking two leads and a co producer. One main location and a harvest window that sets the shoot dates.

Studio thriller, slide by slide

Grid Line

Title
GRID LINE. An action thriller. Tagline: Twelve hours. No power. No backup.
Logline
When a heatwave blackout hits a coastal city, a utility lineworker has twelve hours to restore power to a hospital while the people who caused it watch through her own cameras.
World
A city in the dark at the height of summer: substations, pylons, flooded service tunnels and a hospital running on its last generator.
Characters
Rosa, a lineworker who knows every cable in the city. Her estranged brother, a nurse on shift inside the hospital. The engineer who planned the attack.
Tone and comps
Relentless and practical. Speed meets Die Hard: one blue collar hero, one location at a time, a clock that never stops.
Why now
Heatwaves and grid failures are in the news every summer. Audiences know how fragile the power is; this film puts them on the pylon.
Team
Writer with a thriller on a contest shortlist, and a producer with large scale practical action experience.
The ask
Seeking a director and studio partner. Set pieces include a substation fire, a pylon climb in a storm and a tunnel flood.
